![]() ![]() Once each brief tutorial was recorded the product manager would pass it on to me to do the rest. ![]() This can sometimes be the hardest part of recording a tutorial-just gathering enough sample info that you can use to demo a procedure. I reminded them how important it was to have created test data that they could use in the various procedures. Then, I explained how to use the Camtasia recorder to record themselves walking through the task. I taught them how to write Storyboards for specific tasks end users would be doing in the new software. We started off with a Project kickoff meeting where I conducted a half day training session with the Product Team. Half Day Best Practices Session Camtasia Training The requirements were that the tutorials would be no longer than 3 minutes each, would contain a logo, an intro/outro with music, some zooms, callouts, a highlighted cursor and professional narration.īecause of the short time frame, GPC would be doing all the recordings themselves with a team of 5 Product Experts. Recently, I was tasked with helping Product Managers create 50 tutorials that needed to be uploaded prior to a large meeting (where they are introducing some new software). The Genuine Parts Company has been a long time client of mine and, in addition to having been a Project Manager there about ten years ago, I have also been contract to do Camtasia training and various videos over the years. Sometimes they will need them in a short time-frame and are more concerned that they be accurate and completed quickly rather than full of bells and whistles. ![]() There are times when an organization or small business will contact me to help them create a large batch of tutorials for a new software application. Usually I wait until a project is finished then discuss the “Lessons Learned” with the members of our Screencast Video Coaching during the weekly webinars.īut, currently, I’m working on about 50 tutorials for a big corporate client and we have an “Assembly Line” process going that I think many of you could use if you find yourself needing to put together a bunch of software tutorials in a short time. Kudos to TechSmith for making this process so simple and well features the gestures are a great touch.Case Study: Creating Video Tutorials Assembly Line Style and Camtasia Tutorial Before and After With touchscreen-based projects, however, the gestures are so important that I added them in Camtasia first, then created my mezzanine file to finish up in Premiere Pro. Note that for virtually all projects that I produce, I capture with Camtasia, output a QuickTime file using the Apple Animation codec from Camtasia, and edit in Premiere Pro. You can customize the start and stopping location of a swipe and pinch. Drag those into the desired locations.įigure 8. With the swipe and pinch effects, Camtasia will display a start and stop locations. With the double-tap, tap and hold, and tap effects, there is no configuration on-screen you just have to customize the duration ( Figure 8, below). Click the white edge to reveal the effects bar. Then click the effect in the middle to drag it to the target location, or click the grab bars at the edge to adjust duration.įigure 7. If you can’t see the effect in the timeline, hover your pointer over the bottom of the video track until the edge turns white ( Figure 7, below, on the left), and then click the edge, which will open the effects bar ( Figure 7, on the right). So you may have to click and drag the effect to make appear at the right time. Note that the Camtasia editor inserts the effect into the timeline so that it straddles the playhead it doesn’t start the effect at the playhead, which I would have preferred. In the timeline, drag the playhead to the target location for the effect, which is typically when you touched the device during the demonstration.ĭrag the effect into the preview window over the spot where you touched the screen. Dragging the effect into the preview window. In the Teradek project, I used only one: tap.įigure 6. Note that there are five effects double tap, swipe, tap and hold, pinch, and tap. In the upper left of the Camtasia editor interface, click Gesture FX to reveal these effects ( Figure 6, below).
